Back in 2013, Erica Sullivan breathed life into Small Potatoes within a charming little "mansion" originally built as a movie set on the River Run Nursery grounds in Norwich. Erica had a heartfelt vision: to create a cozy space where local artists could consign their work, giving the community a unique place to shop small and support local talent. She filled every inch of that tiny building with curated treasures, turning it into a truly magical experience.As the shop’s popularity grew, Erica moved to larger locations to accommodate more artists, eventually landing at our current home in the Yantic River Plaza in Norwich, not too far from her original location. Through it all, her generous spirit has fostered a thriving environment where creators and shoppers alike feel at home. My name is Shannen Patnoad, and I am honored to be the new owner of Small Potatoes. My journey here began in 2018, but my roots in Eastern Connecticut go much deeper. I grew up in Baltic where my family owned Salt Rock Campground and  I attended NFA, as did my children. My mother and I were frequent visitors to the Small Potatoes, always drawn to its creative energy. With a background in fine arts and photography, and a family full of creators, my life has always been centered around making things. Our paths crossed professionally in the winter of 2018. My daughter and I were busy crafting to fund her dance competitions, and we soon had more inventory than we knew what to do with. On my mother’s advice, I brought bins of our work to Erica. She welcomed my crafts and, coincidentally, was looking for shop help that very day. I joined the team immediately and have spent the last several years getting to know our wonderful artists and neighbors.When Erica asked if I could see myself taking over the shop upon her retirement, I didn't hesitate to say yes. After years of planning and navigating life’s twists and turns, everything is falling into place for June 2026. I am so thrilled to carry on this beautiful legacy and continue connecting with all of you. Please stop by the shop and say hello!
